Safety and Fairness Under Scrutiny: Passengers Demand Action Against Bus Company Irregularities

A wave of passenger grievances has put a local bus company under intense scrutiny, with serious allegations of fare inconsistencies, baggage policy violations, and dangerous checkpoint circumvention practices. Public calls for a thorough investigation and immediate regulatory action are growing louder.
The core of the passenger discontent lies in the company's handling of child fares. Commuters are demanding a standardized policy, advocating for a 50% concession for children aged 5-12. The current lack of a clear, consistent system has led to confusion and perceived unfairness, impacting families relying on the service.

Adding fuel to the fire are complaints regarding the company's baggage policy. Despite the Bhutan Construction and Transport Authority's allowance of up to 20kg per passenger, conductors are reportedly charging for or refusing to carry sacks and cartons weighing below this limit. Passengers argue that any non-commercial or non-unacceptable item weighing under 20kg, regardless of packaging, should be permitted onboard.
"We are not asking for special privileges, only for the company to adhere to the regulations already in place," stated a frustrated passenger. "The 20kg allowance is clear, but the company is creating its own arbitrary rules."
Most alarmingly, the company is facing serious accusations of circumventing checkpoint passenger limits. Passengers report that extra individuals are instructed to bypass checkpoints and board the bus after clearance, effectively bypassing safety protocols and potentially overloading the vehicle. This practice, done without the knowledge of checkpoint personnel, raises significant concerns about passenger safety.
"This is a blatant disregard for safety and security," expressed a concerned commuter. "By bypassing the checkpoint, they are putting everyone at risk."
Authorities are now being urged to launch a comprehensive investigation into these allegations. The public is demanding transparency in fare structures, improved customer service, and strict adherence to safety regulations. The need for swift and decisive action is paramount to restore public trust and ensure the safety and fairness of bus transportation.
