Bhutanese Football Star Chencho Gyeltshen Returns to Nepal, Signs with Lalitpur FC to Fulfill a Promise

In a move that has electrified football fans across Nepal and Bhutan, Bhutanese football sensation Chencho Gyeltshen, often hailed as the “Bhutanese Ronaldo,” has signed with Lalitpur FC for the upcoming season. This return marks a professional milestone and the fulfillment of a heartfelt promise made in 2023.
Chencho, a dynamic forward, previously played for Machindra FC but was forced to cut his season short due to an injury. Despite the setback, he assured one of Machindra FC’s sponsors—now the owner of Lalitpur FC—that he would return to Nepal to complete his unfinished business. True to his word, Chencho is back, ready to make an impact on and off the pitch.

“Nepal, being close to Bhutan and sharing cultural similarities, provides the perfect environment for me to play, and it always has,” Chencho shared. “Lalitpur FC is one of the finest teams in Nepal, and I hope we can lift the title this year. It would be fascinating to contribute to the club’s success.”

Chencho’s career has been a journey of growth and resilience, with stints in various leagues across the region. Each experience has shaped him into the player he is today. “Every club and league I’ve played in has given me a unique atmosphere, experience, and exposure. Looking back at the last 10 years, I can see how much I’ve grown as a player and where I stand now,” he reflected.

At Lalitpur FC, Chencho will take on the role of either a striker or a winger, depending on the team’s needs. However, his primary focus remains unwavering: to help the team clinch a title. “No matter where I go, once I sign with a club, my commitment is to help the team lift the title,” he emphasized.

The upcoming Nepali League, which runs for just two months, will serve as a transitional phase for Chencho before he moves on to other leagues. He also highlighted the significant growth of the Nepali League in recent years. “The league has seen a remarkable upgrade in terms of competition quality, thanks to better investments and the signing of quality players,” he noted.

Beyond his club commitments, Chencho has a crucial role to play in the upcoming AFC qualifiers as a key player for Bhutan’s national team. “Preparation is in full swing, and as one of the senior-most players in the team, I feel a sense of responsibility that I happily embrace. Playing for my country has always been special. The team is young and energetic, and I’m ready to push myself for Bhutan,” he said.

Known for his agility, dribbling skills, and goal-scoring prowess, Chencho has been a cornerstone of Bhutan’s national team, delivering standout performances on the international stage. His return to Nepal is not just a boost for Lalitpur FC but also a testament to his dedication to the sport and his unwavering commitment to his promises.

As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Chencho Gyeltshen, the Bhutanese Ronaldo, as he aims to inspire his team, fulfill his pledge, and continue his remarkable journey in football.
