Royal Bhutan Police and HRAB Join Hands to Foster Safer Hospitality Sector

In a proactive move toward creating a safer and more responsible hospitality environment, the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP), in collaboration with the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Bhutan (HRAB), conducted an extensive awareness and sensitisation session on June 6 at Hotel Thimphu Residency.

The session, held at HRAB’s request, brought together hotel owners, managers, and staff from key districts including Thimphu, Paro, Wangdue, and Chukha. The initiative aimed to address the growing concerns around crime and drug-related issues within the hospitality industry and to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and responsibilities required to mitigate such challenges.

Key Topics and Discussions

The sensitisation program covered a range of critical topics, such as:

  • Crime and drug-related issues affecting hotels and surrounding communities

  • Common challenges faced by the hotel sector and strategies for prevention

  • Responsibilities of hotel management in promoting a safe and secure environment

  • The role of parents, caregivers, and individual citizens in crime prevention

  • Rising concerns about cybercrime and online scams targeting the industry

  • The importance of community cooperation and partnership with law enforcement

  • An emphasis on His Majesty The King’s vision, particularly the Gelephu Mindfulness City initiative

  • Reinforcement of service to Tsa-Wa-Sum—King, Country, and People

The event concluded with a significant milestone: the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between RBP’s Crime and Operations Department and HRAB. The MoU formalises a partnership committed to promoting a crime- and drug-free hospitality sector across Bhutan.

Both RBP and HRAB expressed optimism that this collaboration would lead to strengthened vigilance, shared accountability, and enhanced service standards within the hotel and restaurant industry, ultimately contributing to a safer society aligned with Bhutan’s national values.
