🚨 Police Warn Public About Fake Facebook Links Targeting Bank Customers

 Police are warning the public to be extra careful with links shared on Facebook, following a number of scams designed to steal personal and banking information.

In the latest cases, victims were reportedly directed to fake websites and asked to enter details such as their CID number and mobile number. They would then receive an OTP on their phone and be tricked into entering it on the fake website. Once the scammers obtained the OTP, they could change the account password and take control of the account.

Police have identified three common types of fraudulent links currently circulating on Facebook:

🔹 Fake KYC update links claiming to be linked to a Ministry of Finance notification
🔹 Fake DK Bank loan advertisements
🔹 Lucky draw and promotional offers

Bank officials are investigating the incidents in coordination with the Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) and the GovTech Agency.

Authorities are reminding people that banks will never ask customers to share their passwords, mPINs, OTPs or other confidential banking information.

The RMA has also issued a separate warning against allowing others to use or operate personal bank accounts or sharing access details such as OTPs, credit card information and mPINs.

Under the Regulations on the Prohibition of Sharing and Misuse of Bank Accounts, 2026, giving another person or firm access to your bank account may constitute a violation, whether done for payment, favour, goodwill or even without compensation.

Police and financial authorities are urging the public to stay cautious online and avoid clicking suspicious links, even when they appear to come from a bank or government agency.

Remember: Your OTP is private. Never share it with anyone or enter it on a website unless you are certain it is the official banking platform.
