The arrest and subsequent investigation have unveiled a complex network of individuals involved in the operation, many of whom claim to have been unaware of the contents of the tightly wrapped packages they were transporting. According to sources, Sonam was accompanied by two accomplices, aged 27 and 34, who managed to evade arrest and returned to Haa, Bhutan, the following day. The case came to light when Sonam’s sister filed a complaint with the Haa police on December 19 after learning of her brother’s detention from the two accomplices. Safety and Fairness Under Scrutiny: Passengers Demand Action Against Bus Company Irregularities

Image
A wave of passenger grievances has put a local bus company under intense scrutiny, with serious allegations of fare inconsistencies, baggage policy violations, and dangerous checkpoint circumvention practices. Public calls for a thorough investigation and immediate regulatory action are growing louder. The core of the passenger discontent lies in the company's handling of child fares. Commuters are demanding a standardized policy, advocating for a 50% concession for children aged 5-12. The current lack of a clear, consistent system has led to confusion and perceived unfairness, impacting families relying on the service. Adding fuel to the fire are complaints regarding the company's baggage policy. Despite the Bhutan Construction and Transport Authority's allowance of up to 20kg per passenger, conductors are reportedly charging for or refusing to carry sacks and cartons weighing below this limit. Passengers argue that any non-commercial or non-unacceptable item weighing unde...

Double Bookings Plague Druk Ride Services, Leaving Passengers Stranded

Passengers using the Druk Ride bus service are facing increasing instances of double bookings, with seats being sold both online and at traditional booking counters, often leading to confusion and frustration.  A driver for Bumpa Transport, which operates under the Druk Ride umbrella, highlighted the issue, stating that seats are sometimes assigned to two different people. The problem stems from a lack of real-time communication between the online booking system and the traditional ticket counters.  According to sources, counter staff are not always aware of bookings made through the mobile app.  This leads to the same seat being sold twice – once online and again at the counter.  The driver explained that counter staff should be able to check the availability of seats immediately and cross-reference with the app before issuing tickets.  Currently, this reconfirmation process is not consistently being followed, resulting in passengers who have ...
